One of the side-lights of this passage is the stopping up of thge wells. I am reminded of wells Isaac redug , his father's wells. But it makes sense that depriving a desert people of water is lethal. Water is weaponized and has been. This from Google:

It is not, by any means, exhaustive and the conflicts listed vary from full blown wars to disputes between neighbours.
