Despite being a same-gender loving person, I have always felt that the queer reading of Ruth and Naomi as lovers was probably a bit overstated. The Christian distinction between agape (profound non-sexual love) and eros (self-explanatory) may be helpful here. I have always read Ruth’s love for Naomi as agape, without a sexual dimension.
