Rabbi, these are truly words of consolation for me. It’s so important for me to understand that suffering is part of our present world and that maybe sometime in the future there will be no more suffering of the innocent. Best wishes, Evelyn
This is such a meaningful, almost heretical chapter. You seem to reflect that ours is an imperfect world on purpose; that even God admits he’s not all powerful.
I'm still caught, hours later, on the hook of Rashi's strange image, "...but God slew the female and salted her away for the righteous in the future." And you pointing out that it's very significant that it was the Female who was slain.
That inspired these odd thoughts which kept me company today:
"Salted her away"!! - as in, made her into provisions for when times got hard?? (as in: now?)
And if so, how and where do we find, and take into our own selves, the preserved, hidden, Feminine body, salted away for our future? Is she maybe scattered all over the Earth? Like the body of Osiris that once all the pieces were gathered and put back together was still fertile? Like the holy sparks scattered from the shattering of the vessels too fragile to hold the Light, that we're supposed to raise up and repair? Maybe those of us who care to, each have a piece we're to find and in-carnate...
A fun consideration: I've heard that one of the Mandarin words for Chaos, "hun dun," is basically a homophone with the Cantonese "won ton," as in the dumplings, although they are different characters - so eating a bowl of won ton soup (and there are good vegetarian versions!) could be one way to imbibe a daily serving of Chaos :)
