I have a good friend who has been inducted into the Masonic tradition in which the building of Solomon's Temple becomes the model for spiritual development; Hiram and his. labors form the structure of the discipline. The Masons write nothing down and are sworn to secrecy, and the facts above are common knowledge. What fascinated me in particular about this tradition is that it is oral. The wisdom is passed from elders to initiates in a transmission requiring months of listening and recitation. The recitation of the ritual, performed in the lodge, lasts for hours. All memorized.
