What has always touched me about these chapters---some interestingly addressed just to Moses, some to both brothers---is the risky life of these archetypal priests. They are the first-responders, sans face-masks and antibiotics, who draw near and nearer to touch and inspect, surely to comfort, and finally to see healing or death. I don't know whether Avivah talks about this form of intimacy in her new book, but of the many forms of intimacy---all of which entail some vulnerability---what is modeled here limning out the office of the priests is surely intimate.
